Snorkelling off Menjangan Island in north Bali

On this #TravelTuesday, I thought I'd share some photos of the best snorkelling we have ever experienced. These pics are not ours, since unfortunately we forgot to bring an underwater camera with us, but they were taken at the same location and easily could have been taken by us (sorry if I'm breaking any copyright laws).

We went snorkeling near Menjangan Island in north Bali on August 10, 2016. We had just enjoyed snorkeling in Amed for the previous few days and had seen some really awesome things. But Menjangan was even more amazing! My husband and I were with my nephew and his Indonesian fiancée. We all confirmed that we had never experienced anything like it (and between us we've snorkeled in some pretty amazing places like Bonaire, Hawaii, Thailand etc.).

The sheer quantity of fish was unbelievable, not to mention the unique life we saw. Blue starfish (actually called a sea star) were my favourite which were dotted all over the coral. I also saw a clam like the one in the photo, except that instead of blue "velvet" it was deep purple. The clam was massive and I could peek in and see the animal inside (which I thought looked like the biggest pearl I'd ever seen, but I know was not a pearl! Lol) The turtle was a real treat to see up close, especially since when we were in Oahu, Hawaii last year we looked and looked for turtles (which we had been assured we would see) but only ever saw one, from the shore of a rocky beach.

I spent a lot of the day floating and staring in wonder all around me thinking I was a very very lucky person to be experiencing such beauty. Healed indeed!
